Is prayer about a method? Or a commitment? Or perseverance? Looking at Isaiah 56, Pastor Gordon says that prayer starts with, and is first and foremost about, God's intimate terms with us. Long before we open our mouths in prayer, the Spirit and the Son are already praying for us. When we understand this, we pray.

Fitness fads fade away, but not before the gimmick has distracted you from real fitness: working out and eating right. The Bible also talks about gimmicks that seem to lead you closer to Jesus, but are actually leading you away to false teaching. And false teaching can be deadly. In the last sermon in our CrossFit series, Pastor John talks about how a spiritually fit church does not fall for false teaching. You'll learn to discern two false teachings in the church, and several gimmicks we need to learn to discern.

As we start our January series "Cross Fit", Pastor John shares how the number one rule of physical fitness is the same number one rule of Christian community: Show Up. Unpacking Hebrews 10:19-25, he talks about how Jesus showed up on our behalf, a church in China showing up despite persecution, and the shortcomings of church apps. As we reflect on 2018 and look towards 2019, how do we get the deep change we want in our lives? Often we are afraid to admit who we really are, and cover over our shame with self-righteousness. Pastor John unpacks the story of Judah and Tamar from Genesis 38, one of the most bizarre and scandalous passages in the Bible. And in this story, we see that God is committed to changing messed-up people and using their messed-up messes for His purposes.
